BATTLE SCENARIOS
Battle Scenario for 10:00
BE IN YOUR STARTING POSITIONS 20 MIN BEFORE BATTLE BEGINS
A few notes on the scenarios. Due to the large number of people reenacting, the larger German forces registered and the compressed downtown area size, I decided to script the battles to limit the amount of people playing at any time. Some units will only get to play in one of the two battles. If you have a second impression and wish to switch uniforms to play in both battles that is fine, but you must inform the overall commander’s before the battle.
Morning 10:00 battle D-Day Battle
Estimated time : 20 minutes
Overall Commanders:
Allied: Daniel Courter 82nd AB
Axis: Otto Landrik IR 134th
Units allowed to participate: US paratroopers (M1942 uniforms or standard infantry uniforms for glider troops), British paratroopers, Free French, Wehrmacht and Luftwaffe units only. No allied vehicles unless they historically came in on gliders on D-Day.
Starting points: US paratroopers and free French start in front of Esso station close to building. French civilians start around cafe area. All Wehrmacht and Luftwaffe reenactors are held in reserve behind courthouse, except those noted below. Reenactors held in reserve may not enter battle until told so.
Battle area: Main st from traffic light at Esso station going East to Perry County chamber of commerce building. Also courthouse building and surrounding area. Axis forces are allowed to use windows of courthouse to fire from. Allied forces are not allowed to enter courthouse building!
Battle begins with several IR 134 Germans dragging 2 wounded US airborne paratrooper prisoners from Perry chamber of commerce area to inside courthouse. At the same time several IR 134 Germans ask for papers in front of cafe from group of French civilians. A argument breaks out and 1 French civilian is shot in the leg. The Germans take him into courthouse. French civilians scream and yell then leave battle area.
2 IR 134 Germans are left guarding front of courthouse plus 2 IR 134 Germans on east side of courthouse.
Immediately US paratroopers tactically move East from Esso station. They stop at cafe briefly and then attack courthouse. Germans guarding front doors go inside or die. 2 Germans on east side engage from basement stairs area. Windows open in courthouse and 4 Germans start shooting. US and French become pinned down behind cover. British paratroopers with 2 universal carriers come from Perry CoC area and engage. Allied machine guns open up from rooftops (buildings above spectators) and Germans in windows retreat. Allies push forward and reach front doors of courthouse. Remaining Wehrmacht and Luftwaffe reinforcements when sent signaled attack from behind East side of courthouse. US and French forces get pushed and must retreat tactically back to Esso station. British get pushed back to Perry co chamber of Commerce.
Air raid siren signals cease fire and end of battle. Germans win.
Battle Scenario for 16:00, September 29th 2018
BE IN YOUR STARTING POSITIONS 20 MIN BEFORE BATTLE BEGINS
Estimated time : 30 minutes
Overall Commanders:
Allied: Robert Nitsche 6AD
Axis: John Griffith LAH
Units allowed to participate: All Allied. German SS plus Luftwaffe held in reserve.
Battle area: Starting at the Post Office on the West side of Linden and all along Main St ending at the Perry County chamber of commerce building East of town. Also courthouse building and surrounding area. Axis forces are allowed to use windows of courthouse to fire from. Allied forces are not allowed to enter courthouse building!
Vehicle movement lane: Anywhere along Main st, the lane closest to the spectators on the South sidewalk is for Allied vehicle movement traveling East. Reenactors may use this lane to fight from but they may not die in this lane. Any vehicle knocked out must move out of this lane before stopping so they don’t block it. This is a safety rule.
SS reenactors stage in town from Esso station to courthouse. Allied vehicle column stages near post office along Brooklyn St. SS troops remain out of sight near Esso station. French civilians may start anywhere in the battle area doing normal activities but must leave when the shooting starts.
Battle begins with US recon group of jeeps and 1 scout car coming into town from post office area. Germans ambush from Esso station rooftop and destroy group fairly quickly.
As this short recon battle rages French resistance start a fight near courthouse. French enter from Perry chamber of commerce corner. Battle with resistance lasts for 5-10 minutes and French retreat.
Propaganda leaflets fall from rooftops.
As soon as US recon group get wiped out the main armor column moves out with tank in lead and all allied forces (less French resistance). Stuart tank sets pace of battle. No Allies may move farther forward of the tank. Stuart slugs its way to courthouse and gets taken out just past cafe after putting 10 rounds into building. SS fire from rooftops and courthouse windows.
After tank is destroyed Luftwaffe units (held in reserve) are signaled to mount a counter offensive from behind Esso station and attack back towards courthouse (from behind most Allied troops).
Any remaining French resistance come back into fight from East edge of battle area when signaled.
Allies counter attack Luftwaffe units. All Germans surrender or die. Air raid siren signals end of battle. German flag is dropped from courthouse. French flag is put up.
